Antique gold pendant with peridot

A Victorian pendant with a bright green peridot! Did you know that the ancient Egyptians mined peridot on the Red Sea island of Zabargad? They called it ‘gem of the sun’. Many large peridots you see in museums have this origin. Another fun fact: in 2005, peridot was found in comet dust brought back from the Stardust robotic space probe. (source: GIA)

Peridot is still prized today as it has a beautiful yellowish green colour. It has been found in lava flows in the United States, China and Vietnam. Sources closer to home? Finland, for example!

I love how this gemstone is set in an elegant antique design. The green colour matches perfectly with the rose gold of the pendant.
