Vintage earrings with synthetic blue spinel

Powerful and magical: ice blue earrings to compliment the bluest eyes around town. Have you seen actor Michelle Yeoh as the Elven warrior Scían in the series ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’? She has these incredible fairytale blue eyes. I love how she can switch from looking very disapprovingly and be kind and loving in a blink of the… you get my drift. I’m smitten.

These earrings remind me of her Elven eyes. The faceted blue stones are little swimming pools to drown in! What you see is the most gorgeous synthetic blue spinel. Synthetic, you ask? This means it essentially has the same chemical, optical and physical properties as natural spinel, but it is grown by people in a laboratory.

For synthetic spinels, the flame infusion/ verneuil process is the most common way to create it. How this works? In the laboratory, you drop powdered chemicals through a high-temperature flame. It then melts and falls onto a rotating pedestal. The result is a synthetic crystal. Sometimes, synthetic spinels can be created using flux growth or hydrothermal growth. Both really interesting processes as well. Just ask and I’ll tell you more about it.
